Can I install my hot tub in a conservatory or indoors?
This is possible in most cases, and can enhance your hot tub experience. Naturally, there are a few things to consider when doing this: The room may require rewiring to "bathroom regulations" to comply with regulations - always consult a registered electrician to advise you on this. Ventilation and heating may need to be considered to reduce condensation. Keeping the room 2 degrees above the water temperature, and/or providing ventilation will prevent condensation from forming. Its generally best to avoid placing spas above ground level, and one should always ensure adequate drainage is provided.
Can I install the electrical supply myself?
For spas rated over 15 amps; No. A registered electrician will need to visit and install a special protective breaker in your consumer unit (fuse box), run a cable to your hot tubs location, and connect the cable into the hot tub itself before it is filled up.
Can I use my new hot tub right away?
In some cases it is possible to hot-fill your hot tub from a combination boiler (or on-demand boiler) which can reduce initial electricity consumption when initially heating from cold. However depending on the chemicals you choose, there may be a wait time for these to properly activate.
Do I need to have water pipe plumbed up to the spa?
No - this is a common misconception. Portable hot tubs and spas are filled from a garden hose. The water is heated up to temperature. Most people will leave their hot tub at this temperature for up to three months before a water change is required. Then the spa is drained and refilled using a garden hose.
How are the chemicals added to the pool?
Some chemicals are added by sprinkling them directly onto the water surface, some require dissolving first in a bucket of clean water, before being added. Others are added in tablet form to dissolve slowly, often through a floating dispenser. Always follow the directions on the packet carefully and obey any safety requirements. We run through this with you if you choose the relevant delivery package, however our chemical packs also include a maintenance guide. If you run into problems please call us for advice.
How long do the filters last?
Most spas and hot tubs feature pleated "cartridge" filters that will last for up to a year before replacement is necessary. Some brands use machine washable filters which will not last as long. Foam filters will last for a couple of weeks.
How many jets and pumps should a hot tub have?
Again, this depends on you and what you need the tub to do. Generally hot tubs have one or two main or Jet pumps. Air blowers can help to boost performance of the jets, while circ pumps have no effect on the performance of the spa or hot tub.
How much horsepower do I need?
Despite many manufacturers mis-quoting the horsepower figures of their pumps (using brake horsepower, peak horsepower or whatever to inflate their figures), most spas and hot tubs above entry level will have very similar pumps. To get a real idea of the power of the pump - most motors will be around 1800-2000watts - generally a 2.5 or 3hp pump. These motors can then have different "wet ends" which have a separate horsepower rating. The only way to be sure is to see one working, or to get a figure for the number of liters-per-minute the pump is capable of delivering.
How much will a Hot Tub cost to run?
This depends on the volume of water, the surface area, the size of the power supply, the insulation, and the hard cover.
How much will chemicals cost per month?
If you are frugal with your chemical use and type, it can cost less than $7.50 per month.
I do not have a garden access; how do I get the pool into my rear garden?
Often a friendly neighbour will be able to remove a fence panel to allow you to bring the hot tub in through their garden. Some of our hot tubs are collapsible so these of course can be put virtually anywhere. Another option is to contact a local crane hire company who will be able to (in most cases) lift the hot tub over your house for a few hundred pounds.
So why do some hot tubs have one pump and 30 jets, while others just have 15 jets?
This depends on the size of jet used - some models will have 15 large-diameter jets, or thirty smaller jets. Hot Tubs with lots of large jets will need big pump(s) to ensure adequate pressure from the jets.
What electricity supply is needed for a hot tub?
This depends on the type of hot tub.
What happens if I move house?
Either negotiate the hot tub into the sale price and buy a new one when you move (can be more cost effective), otherwise most hot tub companies and removals firms will re-locate it for you cheaply.
What hot tub should I choose?
This is down to what you need it to do. If you want to entertain lots of people, but don't need hydrotherapy, then a large spa, with lots of seats and few jets will do just fine. If the benefits of hydrotherapy appeal to you and your partner, but you don't fancy sharing this luxury, then a two-seater with lots of jets is perfect. That said, because a two-seater hot tub is not as in-demand as a typical "family tub" they are often more expensive than a larger model of a higher specification.
What is the weight of a Hot Tub when empty?
Anything up to 500kg - check the individual product specification for exact weights. Swim spas weigh around 800kg when dry.
What is the weight of a Hot Tub when full?
Check the product specifications for exact amounts, but anything between 1000kg and 2000kg is to be expected. Swim Spas weigh anything up to around ten tonnes (10,000kg) when full and require thicker, purpose made foundations.
What maintenance is required and how long will it take me?
The water MUST be tested daily before you use the pool which takes around 30 seconds. Provided you look after your water (ozone and UV sanitisers can also help), then the chemicals will not need adjusting more than once a week, depending on use, which will take a maximum of 1/2hr. Every week or two the filters should be cleaned which will take around 10 mins. Every three months the hot tub will require draining and refilling which is dependent on hose diameter and water pressure. Some timber cabinets will require additional maintenance over long periods time.
Where is the best place for a hot tub?
Over 90% of our customers install them outside their house, often as close as possible to the nearest rear door (ideally leading on to a utility room or downstairs shower room).
Will the hot tub fit through a standard doorway?
It depends; on the size. Generally a 2m x 2m spa that is 0.8m deep will fit through most doorways, although you should check the product dimensions, adding between 1 and 2cm to each dimension to allow for the packaging.
